In May, cottonwood seeds pack gutters in a matter of days — a single tree can deposit enough fibrous material to completely block a downspout in one week of shedding. After debris is cleared, we flush each downspout with water and watch the exit point. A lot of "cleaned" gutters still have blocked downspouts — compacted material at a bend or elbow that doesn’t clear with hand-scooping alone. We don’t leave until every downspout is confirmed running free all the way to the ground exit. That final flush test is what separates a complete gutter cleaning from one that looks done but isn’t.
